LAWN and GARDEN

Lawn Mowing

We offer a weekly mowing/edging service. Your lawns growing pattern during different seasons dictates the frequency of the mowing schedule.

Expect your lawn to be mowed once a week from the beginning of March through till the end of June, then bi-weekly (once every two weeks) during the summer drought for July and August. The mowing will then return to a once per week schedule, with the return of cooler weather, and rain in September, October and November.

Please note: We do not take away lawn clippings. We will either mulch clippings or collect them and leave them in your green organics bin for city pick-up.

Please have all animal waste and any other obstacles like toys or hoses etc picked up prior to our arrival each week to avoid any surcharges.

Moss Control

Moss growth in lawns here in the lower mainland is a re-occurring problem each year due to the amount of yearly precipitation we get in this region. The results on each lawn vary but generally expect the moss in the lawn to turn brown or black following the application of the moss control product. Depending on the amount of moss present in the lawn either, the small amount of dead moss will be left to decompose back into the lawn, or if a larger amount of dead moss is left it will be cleaned up and removed.

Aeration

Regular aerating of your lawn is one of the most beneficial things you can do for the lawn. Removing the cores or plugs exposes the lawns roots and beneficial bacteria to fresh oxygen. This reduces the soil compaction and allows oxygen and water access the roots of the grass easier. This in turn aids in the drainage of excess water. The cores are left on top of the lawn and are allowed to break down by themselves, returning the natural benefits back into the lawn

Power Raking/De-Thatching

Power Raking is a more invasive way to deal with a moss infestation and involves digging deep into the soil with a power rake to remove as much of the moss as possible. This is followed by collection of the loosened moss which results in the lawn being left quite bare. Aerating, liming and fertilizing are recommended after power raking a lawn and then re seeding the entire lawn to prevent moss from allowing to return.

De-Thatching does not dig into the soil as much and is used to loosen the moss when it is still at a minimum in the lawn. Re-seeding is not generally needed but each lawn will be evaluated for the necessity to re-seed after de-thatching.

Fertilizing We offer a stand alone fertilizer service for those clients who like to mow their own lawns but do not want to deal with the hassle of putting down fertilizers. We can put together a custom fertilizer program for your lawn including things like lime, moss control, organic fertilizer, aeration and compost tea, plus we don’t make you pay in advance like those other guys.

We only bill after each fertilizer application because we believe your lawn may not need 4 or 5 fertilizers applications a year, so why pay in advance for something you may not need.

Top Dressing

Top dressing can improve your lawns health and help with drainage. It also levels out uneven spots in lawns. It is also recommended, when re-seeding a lawn, to cover all grass seed with soil.

Re-Seeding / Over-Seeding

Re-Seeding is a recommended service when a job such as power raking a moss infested lawn has been completed.  When re-seeding is needed for a large area, top dressing the lawn after is also recommended for optimal results. This helps prevent the seed from drying out or being eaten by birds.

Over-Seeding involves covering the entire existing lawn with new lawn seed to help promote a green and healthy lawn while helping with weed prevention. Over-seeding should be done throughout the growing season.
